SUMMARY: Week 10

So, this week, not only did we receive 1458 emails this week, bring our total up to 9508, but it also marks our 10th week of the experiment. So, what happened in those 10 weeks? Our original goal was to see how much spam, we could actually get. We set off, on Day One, signing up for every website we could find, and putting our email address everywhere (Even on 4chan!). In our first week, we got an amazing 622 emails, and over the next few weeks, it slowly increased, on average of 188 a week, to our current total of 9508. According to our account, the emails take up a combined space of 281 Megabytes, making up 3% of our Gmail account! Ive noticed that most of the emails don't actually have an "unsubscribe" link or button, and even scarier, more than 10 emails, from companies who seed fine, actually contained a virus! I think the moral of the story is, seriously, DON'T TRUST ANYONE ON THE INTERNET! Don't give any details, your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, and especially credit card info to anyone on the Internet, even if they seem legit. Now, of course, some sites (Like Amazon, eBay [to an extent...], Apple etc.) are legit, but most (Nearly 70%) of the Internet is made up of porn and scams. The Epic Spam Experiment is meant to be a kind of Public service to anyone who is just starting to use the Internet, or is unfamiliar with the dangers of the Internet, showing you what NOT to do. Remember, were doing this so you don't have to. Anyway, don't forget to spread the word, by recommending us and following us on Twitter and Facebook, and, if you ever come across a site or survey that asks you to put in an email address, use ours!
